Why Is It....?

Why is it that people from Asian and African American descent all have brown eyes and darker hair?

Why Is It....?

People who originally came from warmer climates naturally evolved with darker skin hues and eyes - the more melanin in the skin the more protected from the sun

BTW all AA's do not have brown eyes - some have black eyes, hazel eyes; and gray eyes

Why Is It....?

We don't all have brown eyes....rarely ever blue but some people do have hazel or grey eyes(at least the African Americans)

But it's in our heritage just as white people have lighter hair and lighter eyes sometimes

Why Is It....?

Hmmmmmmm. Maybe the harsh sun is better on brown eyes and hair. It asorbs the heat and keeps it away from the skull?

I honestly believe there is a method to natures madness, I just don't know what it is.

BUT, I've heard there are Japenese up in the mountains with blonde hair and blue eyes (no, not mixed with anything)...don't know if thats true or not but would love to know.

Why Is It....?

That's a really good question. Tell you what, I'll try and find that answer.

Why Is It....?

I am not an expert, but I think the explanations goes more or less this way:

The dark eyes have a dominant gene, that means, if one people with dark eyes marries one person with (say) blue eyes, then if the son has 1 gene for dark and 1 gene for blue, then the eyes will turn dark. There is a higher possibility to have dark eyed sons/daughters, then (it is not impossible to have otherwise, but there is less probability). The same with the hair.

Why Is It....?

Eye colour is an inherited trait influenced by more than one gene. In humans, three genes associated with eye colour are currently known: EYCL1, EYCL2, and EYCL3. These genes account for three phenotypic eye colours (brown, green, and blue) in humans.

Brown is one of the most common eye color. Some people of African American descent have green eyes and hazel eyes. Those with non-European ancestry generally have darker eyes and less variability in eye color than those of European descent.

In humans, brown eyes contain large amounts of melanin within the iris stroma which serves to absorb light, particularly at the shorter wavelengths. Melanin is black or brown pigment.

Hair color is the result of pigmentation due to the presence of the chemicals of melanin and phaeomelanin.

Human beings have many variations in hair color and hair texture. In general, the more melanin, the darker the hair color; the more phaeomelanin, the lighter it is. Usually the color of children's and adults' hair varies from pale yellow (blonde) to deep black. Hair may also come in more than one shade of color on one's head. As an example, the shade of one's hair color may change from a light shade to a darker one as time elapses.

The ethnic distribution of colors has historically varied by geographic area. For example, black hair prevails in the Middle East, North Africa, and Southern Europe. Dark shades also occur in East Asia, South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Americas. All possible shades from brown to blonde to red to black occur in Europeans and their descendants.

Why Is It....?

because they rub dookie on their hair and eye balls.

hey, six thumbs down is actually good. thank you all. i hope I get the best answer. *crossing fingers*
